For sophomore Shea Holland, her long-awaited four-day weekend was finally here, and it was extra special—it was a celebration of turning 16. Her whole family, gathered for the first time in a long time, packed their bags and headed to a beautiful house in Orlando. Arriving on Thursday, the excitement was through the roof. The house had everything—a pool, plenty of space to relax, and games to keep everyone entertained. The first afternoon was spent unwinding, swimming under the warm Florida sun, and tanning by the water. Over the next few days, Shea and her family enjoyed every moment together. They went shopping and treated themselves to Starbucks. They played intense matches of ping pong as well, but the best part was binge-watching movies with both family and friends, surrounded by snacks and endless laughter. Shea said, “This weekend was special because it was celebrating me turning 16, and it was the first time in a long time where my whole family was together.” Now, Shea can look back on this trip and remember the unforgettable memories of laughter and love celebrating her sweet 16.

About the Contributor

Hello, my name is Alexa Hemmers. I am a part of a group of new yearbook staffers as a sophomore. I enjoy writing for our school newspaper because each article will be about a different occasion, and we interview different people each time. My favorite things to do in my free time are run, go to the beach with my family and hanging out with my boyfriend and teammates. My teammates from Sunlake cross country and track are like family to me because some of us have known each other since sixth and seventh grade. I am excited to learn how to enhance my writing and construct the best yearbook filled with memories.
