This year at Sunlake High School one of our Science teachers, Mrs. O’ Sullivan put together a Pre- Health Student organization on campus designed for students who are interested in careers in the healthcare field, like medicine, dentistry, nursing, or veterinary medicine, essentially providing a support network and resources to help them prepare for professional school applications and related career paths. With this club Mrs. O’Sullivan has had teacher volunteers to help organize some of the meetings. One teacher who has helped is Mrs. Hale, the Anatomy teacher at Sunlake who has been to a few meeting sessions because of her interest in the club, seeing all the mentors that Mrs. O’Sullivan brings in to teach about their professions to the students in the organization. “…The last few meetings I helped volunteer in, there was an OBGYN Gynecologist along with an X-Ray Technician and even a spinal surgeon who came in to speak, so Mrs. O’Sullivan would have various people in a health profession come in and speak about the professions in the health field and how to practice them.” Mrs. Hale mentions she likes encouraging her own students who might be interested in the health field as well by stating “… The club has snacks which makes it even more fun to attend because you get to eat and learn about interesting health professions.” By volunteering for the club Mrs. Hale has learned a lot herself about the health field.
