Under the bright lights of Sunlake High School, the girls’ lacrosse team delivered a commanding 10-4 victory against St. Pete, marking a strong start to their season. Junior attacker Naomi Lammers played a pivotal role in the win, showcasing her skill and enthusiasm for the sport. “I had lots of fun playing that game,” Naomi stated, reflecting on the match. “Some of my friends from club seasons were on the other team, which always makes it more interesting. I think our attack had a pretty good dynamic during that game, which doesn’t always happen.”
Naomi Lammers, a junior who began playing lacrosse in seventh grade after six years of ballet, has quickly become a key player for the team. “I did ballet classes for six years, but after Covid, I thought it would be better to try an outdoor sport,” she explained. Her transition to lacrosse has proven successful, with her dedication evident on the field. This year’s game location at Sunlake provided a welcome change from last year’s challenging conditions. “The game was at Sunlake, which is really great for us because last year we had to drive all the way to St. Pete and play in the pouring rain!” Naomi recalled. Playing attack, Naomi contributed significantly to the team’s offensive efforts. Her experience and understanding of the game were clear as she navigated the field and created scoring opportunities.
Looking ahead, Naomi has high hopes for the team’s potential. “I have huge hopes for our season,” she said, “…this team is filled with talented, intelligent girls, and I’m really excited to be able to use that to make opportunities to succeed on the field.” The team’s unity and talent reflect their ambitions, with a clear focus on achieving success in the district playoffs. “I’d really love to get as far as we can in districts,” Naomi expressed. “I think that it’s totally doable, and it would be an awesome opportunity to make it to the championship.”
Beyond lacrosse, Naomi balances her athletic pursuits with her love for reading and the beach. Her dedication to the sport, combined with her well-rounded interests, makes her a valuable member of the team. With a strong start to the season and a determined team spirit, the girls’ lacrosse team is poised for a successful run, and Naomi Lammers is set to be a key player in their journey.
