Sunlake High School’s baseball team has a rising talent in junior Logan Soriano, an infielder and right-handed pitcher who has had a journey of growth, leadership, and memories that will last a lifetime. Standing at 5’5″ and weighing around 125 pounds, Logan is an apart of the Class of 2026 and wears jersey number 29 for the Seahawks. Logan has showed a deep passion for baseball and has a very mature approach towards the season.
In an interview with Logan, he told me “Over the last three years at Sunlake in my baseball career, I have had a lot of fun playing with my best friends and looking to make more memories.” “I have become a much more mature player and person in general and am very grateful for Sunlake Baseball.” The maturity has been shown on and off the field. Logan has had some challenges at the plate this season but even through that he has stepped up as a guiding voice in the dugout. “I went to a JV game and brought energy within the dugout and influenced them all around.” Logan is a key player for success for Sunlake and through his own experience, he is helping guide other players around him as well.
While Logan admits he’s been working through a hitting slump, he remains focused on getting back on track and trusting himself more “This season at the plate I have been struggling, but it’s just a confidence issue at this point. I am just trying to go up and be myself at the plate and not care about the outcome – which always leads to positive results for me.” Logan is aware of the struggles, but he knows that he has performed at a high level once and believes he can return to that high level as long as he stays focused and continues his current approach. Something that may be impacting his play, is the mental toughness he faces when switching from fielding to pitching “Being a pitcher, you must switch mindsets in the middle of the game after being switched from the field because it is two completely different things, and it is mentally tough to switch mindsets.” Even through the mental toughness that switching positions has, Soriano has been able to keep a positive mindset for himself and the team.
Despite the ups and downs throughout the season, Logan has said he is proud of the team’s resilience and unity. “The team has stayed positive throughout the whole season no matter what the outcome because as a team we all know we could beat any team that we play, no matter how good they are.” Soriano has confidence in the team and good team chemistry can go a long way. Logan has said “I want to be a teammate that always encourages everyone else and helps when they are struggling.” Teammates like that provide a key part to the team, helping them stick together throughout the season. Every team could use a player like Logan.
As the spring season for Baseball continues, Logan’s leadership and passion make him a key player for the Sunlake Baseball team. Stats are not the only thing that matters when it comes to making a good player but the positive impact a player has on the team and players around him are what really stands out. Logan Soriano is the perfect leader and ball player, and he leaves a lasting impact on the team.
