When I first joined the yearbook staff in the beginning of my sophomore year, I had no idea what to expect. I was so nervous because I wanted to do well and prove that I had what it takes to be a staffer on the yearbook team. So, when I got my first assignment, I was so excited to get started. The assignment was to interview a new staff member which just so happened to be Alexa Hemmers, who sits right next to me and is on my cross country and track team. On August 27, 2024, I submitted my first ever story to The Perch (AKA, the student newspaper). I was so proud of myself and could not wait to do even more stories. From then on, I created fifteen stories, including the one you’re reading right now! Interviewing different people and writing stories about their accomplishments and adventures throughout their high school career allowed me to get to know the person and learn more about them. But, even though I have written different stories and articles for the yearbook, the yearbook team does so much. They put so much time and effort into making the yearbook perfect and have worked so hard this year. From planning and organizing to writing, editing, and revising, the process is planned carefully by the yearbook team. So, when you purchase a yearbook and see all the pages, just remember that the yearbook staff put so much work into it to make the yearbook perfect. After months of writing and finishing the yearbook, the new leadership team was announced for next year. I learned that I had become a Design Editor. Learning that I had made it on to the leadership team made me so excited for next year! I cannot wait to get started and design the yearbook! Over the course of ten months, I feel like I have grown not only as a writer, but a person as well. I made so many new friends and learned about so many different people. I will never forget this year, and I cannot wait to come back.
