Ray Gonzales, a senior at Sunlake High School, spent his senior year fully committed to his goals. While many of his classmates chose easier schedules, Ray challenged himself with s-

-ix AP classes. “It’s definitely been stressful, especially when most of my peers have a period or two off,” he said. Despite the pressure, he kept trying his best, determined to finish with good grades. His work definetly paid off when he was accepted into the University of South Florida. “It was definitely worth it to secure my admittance into USF,” he said. Although all that work was heavy, Ray found value in his classes. “They’re not too challenging overall, but AP Chemistry has most definitely been the most challenging course of my life,” he said. That class, in particular, had a important impact on Ray. “It really pushed me to do better and even influenced me to confirm my major to biochem instead of just biology.” It helped him discover a new career he wanted to pursue. Looking ahead to college, Ray feels excited about the changes that are coming. “I can’t wait to be able to really be in control of my own schedule,” he said. At the same time, however he will miss some parts of high school. “What I might miss the most is the structure of high school and how simple the schedule and the work you get is laid out in front of you,” he said. Even with all that pressure Ray didn’t let the stress stop him from enjoying his final year. He managed to make time for events like skip day and water wars. “All the events that come with senior year have made it my favorite year of school,” he said. Even though he’s ready and excited to move on, he does appreciate everything this year has given him. Ray’s senior year was a balance of hard work, growth, and memories. He showed dedication and personal discovery, and he’s ready to go on what’s next at USF with confidence.
