Sophomore Akira Charlton spent her summer almost 5,000 miles away from the seahawk nest! Akira’s inspiration for taking the excursion to Germany was getting to visit her family and learning more about the countries history.
Akira visited many places in Germany but the most memorable one to her was The Heidelberg Castle. “I went with my mom, cousin, sister, and a couple family friends, and we took a tour!”
Akira couldn’t travel to another country without getting to try all the new foods. She says, “I felt truly immersed in the culture when I went to the most famous restaurant in Germany called, Hofbräuhaus.” Akira’s favorite food from Germany is the Jager Schnitzel which is mushroom gravy on a a thin breaded piece of meat.
She also got to explore more of Germany’s history by visiting concentration camps. Akira describes, “One of my biggest challenges during the trip was that there was lots of rain in Dachau which made being at the concentration camps harder to look at and learn.” Although the tragic story, she believes that its important to learn more about the camps.
To end the trip off on a better note, Akira attended a concert. She explains, “If I was able to go back and relive a moment I would relive the GNX SZA and Kendrick concert in Frankfurt.” She had a great time singing along her favorite songs in a full stadium!
