Carly Gaddis is a diligent and a compassionate junior working on the Sunlake High yearbook staff. Carly is very thrilled about being an upperclassman and all the benefits that come from it, as well as to have the opportunity to experience working in a “job-type of situation” this year. “I joined yearbook,” Gaddis stated, “because I thought it would be fun to be a part of something like this and so I can continue with photography.”
When it comes to the different jobs available on the yearbook staff, photography is what interests Carly the most. However, that isn’t all that she is passionate about. In her free time, Gaddis enjoys writing and playing basketball. In fact, she’s been a member of the Sunlake Girls basketball team for all three years of her high school journey.
“I have been on JV [basketball] the past two years, and hopefully I can be a swinger this year,” she explained when questioned further about the sport. Carly also loves reading, and never misses a chance to dig into a good book.
Even with all the excitement, Gaddis still has concerns of her own. When asked if there is anything she’s nervous about for the upcoming year, she responded “SATs.” She’s feels a little unprepared for the big exams, but is planning on studying for it throughout the year. While nervous, Carly feels fairly confident that she will score well.
On the topic of preparing for the looming tests, Gaddis was later asked about how she manages or plans to balance her schoolwork and commitments with her hobbies. “I need to definitely spend less time on my phone,” Carly reflected, “and more time doing what I should be.” She also recognizes that procrastination can be a real issue in her routine, and plans on working to fix that issue.
As for after high school, Carly has a range of careers in mind. “Currently I want to maybe be a teacher or an archeologist, which are very different things, but that’s what interests me right now!” Despite the variation in occupational aspirations, Gaddis’s work ethic and enthusiasm will allow her to be successful in any field. For now, Carly is focused on contributing to the yearbook and school newspaper as much as possible.
