Weston Spiers is a sophomore here at Sunlake who is fueled by a productive and active summer. Rather than taking the time off to fully relax, Weston dedicated his time to training for the upcoming weightlifting season. “My summer was good, its always nice to take a little break from school,” he said, recalling his time away from the classroom. For Weston, this time off was a chance for him to get ahead and ensure he was in peak condition for the season. His commitment went beyond working out alone, “Over the summer, I went to the gym and stayed active so that I was ready for the next sport season, usually with games like basketball and football.” His understanding of the importance of consistent training and the benefits of a variety of workouts helped maintain and prepare his body for the tough season ahead. Weston also made sure to train with others who shared his same passion. “I trained throughout the whole summer periodically with other students outside the team,” he said. With the school year starting, Weston is looking forward to putting his summer work to the test. “I’m super excited to compete again next year.” His productive summer not only prepared him physically, but also helped build a good mentality that he will carry with him to the new weightlifting season. Weston’s story is a reminder that a break can also be a time for growth and preparation.
