Avery’s journey into the world of yearbook began with a creative mind and curiosity as well as a passion to be involved in the school community. When she joined digital design 1 her freshman year, she realized being able to creatively create things was something she truly enjoyed. The class opened many doors with one of them being a part of the yearbook club. Hearing about being able to continue what she likes doing was a perfect opportunity for her to grow her skills but also learn new ones in a fun and hands on environment.
When joining yearbook, Avery realized this class offers opportunities she’s been waiting to catch like being able to meet new people and be more involved with the school. School life expands to more than just academics, it also involves the student’s life as well as sports. She looks forward to being able to capture and share moments with the school.
As a new staff member, Avery wants to expand both her technical and personal skills. She hopes to learn photography so she can contribute more directly to her interests. By taking photos, she is able to capture the emotions of people while they are in the moment allowing for a heartfelt photo for the yearbook. Just as important to her, though, are the soft skills like interviewing, talking with new people, and working effectively as part of a team, that yearbook offers. She says that “being able to talk with people without ever talking to them before is something that I really want to be able to experience and do.”
For Avery, the yearbook is more than just a publication, it’s a way to grow, create, and contribute to the school community. With her enthusiasm for design and her eagerness to learn new things and grow already learned skills, she is ready to help tell the story of this school year, one page at a time.
