This year’s homecoming events are looking to be stacked. In Sunlake’s annual Spirit Week there will be events like the Powderpuff football game, and Skit Night. Our theme, “A Night at the Grammys,” will be one to remember, especially with the class skits that’ll be featured on Wednesday, September 17th. Student Aryanna De la Cruz, a participant in the Class of 2026’s skit, has been thrilled to be part of the large group of around 90 seniors. To her, dancing, performing, and joking around in front of the community that she’s been a member of for three years feels like one last hoorah before graduating. “Because it’s my senior year, I wanted to really get involved as much as I can.”
So far, the seniors have gotten their stage blocking and timing on point. Aryanna says, “The only challenging thing so far has probably been getting people to listen at first.” Typically, the senior class for Skit has the largest number of students participating. According to her, mainly two students, Khadija Mbowe and Mia Lanier, are taking control, breaking up different scenes and working accordingly in order to have the skit running smoothly.
The rehearsal process for Aryanna and her group has been doing very well so far. She says, “We’ve made good progress, like for example, whenever there are people who struggle with learning the dances, others take them to the side and help them out individually.” She also inputs that students have released a dancing video for those practicing at home. “I personally thought this was really helpful because I cannot dance,” she commented.
During rehearsals, she’s found that learning to listen and follow directions closely is a huge part of group scenarios. “I typically tend to lead in groups,” she says. For her, it’s a good change of pace and an opportunity to switch the roles she’d usually take. Overall, Aryanna had a great time practicing and preparing for skit, and it will be fun to see how it turns out!
