This year, our school hosted a successful blood drive, where many students of all grade levels came together to make a difference in the community. A brave participant, Keagan Hedger, explained his experience and why donating blood matters to him.
When asked what inspired him to donate, Keagan Hedger shared, “I realized, after hearing that one donation can save up to three lives, that something so small for me could really mean everything to someone else.” He truly believes in how important it is to help the community in many ways, especially by donating blood, and he’s happy that he has so many opportunities to do this. He also likes to give to the Land O’ Lakes community in other ways, such as donating to food drives, or helping tutor students at our school. Keagan emphasized how the event was able to bring together so many people for a common cause: making a difference in our community and helping people in need. Despite feeling nervous in the beginning, since it was his first time donating blood, he left feeling proud of his impactful donation, and “…happy to be able to make such a big contribution to the community.” To anybody who is unsure about donating, Keagan says, “just go for it, because its worth the impact that it makes on our community and the world.” He is planning on donating blood again in the near future, and is excited to make an even bigger difference.

Thanks to the generosity of students like Keagan, the school blood drive was a true success, proving that even a single pint of blood can make a massive difference. This compassion showed by students throughout Sunlake High School, and many other schools, just shows the true kindness of our community and the true Sunlake spirit.
