During the third week of September, Sunlake High School students are having a blast. Students of all grades are dressing up as Minions, little kids, greasers, and so much more! All of this with one event in mind. Homecoming. There’s games, pep rallies, and, of course, Skit. Joining this year’s skit backdrop set team is Yasmeen Amador, a senior who’s excited for the new challenge. Skit is a yearly performance ran by student council and made by students to try and hype up the rest of the school for the Homecoming event, that was on the 20th, and connect the theme to the football game, that happened Friday, the 19th. This show consisted of scenes to make you laugh and songs to sing along to. Students make songs, scripts, costumes and dances to create the whole performance.
Yasmeen was in charge of helping out by painting the background scenes for such a performance. She would spend her Saturdays in portable 7, from 9 am to about noon, painting, drawing, and helping out the team with the backdrops, then the last few practices with the sets were in building 3, from 2-5 after school. When asked why she joined, like all seniors, she said, “Senior year…you know, you’re trying to do as much as you can, get as involved as you can.” She also had previous experience in Skit, saying, “I did it Freshman year, the backdrop stuff as well, and I thought it was really cool.” She also mentioned doing Skit in her other high school years, and she knew she was going to enjoy it as much as she was going to miss it. She met a lot of new, fun people and created new memories with friends, saying that she recommends it for everyone.

At the top, the picture of the painted soccer field was one of the 7 seven different backdrops that Yasmeen worked on. There were some for Rap battles, locker rooms, the Grammy stage, football fields, and much more. The painters got the opportunity to experiment with different techniques, like creating neon lights.
