Homecoming week is an important moment for high school students, especially freshmen. One freshman that experienced this for the first time was Alyssa Roberts. She went to every event for Hoco week including the football game, skit, the dance, and the pep rally on Friday. This was also her first pep rally as a high school student. said, “I am look forward to the next pep rally.” and “I enjoyed it.” First impressions of key high school experiences can influence someone’s whole view of their time here.
Pep rallies tend to be a great way to get students excited for the dance that is to come. You can sit with your friends and anticipate what will happen next. Alyssa got to sit with some friends in the Freshman Section in the gym. One of the most appealing parts of pep rallies is watching and playing with your peers in fun games. Another key focus is on all of the sports happening during that season. It brings awareness for smaller teams and also helps students get hype for the football game. When asked what her favorite part of the pep rally Alyssa states, “My favorite event was watching the tug-of-war and watching all the sports team get introduced.” Many sports were celebrated during this time Alyssa recalls, “Some sports being introduced were volleyball, football, swimming, cross country, and the golf team.” Cheering for our teams helps bring school spirit and excitement to our sports teams.
Alyssa had one request for her next Seahawk pep rally, “I think, if possible, more seating during the pep rally so everyone has a bit more space.” Most of the over 2,000 students here at Sunlake sat in our basketball gym. It was a tight squeeze to get everyone into a seat to view the exhilarating events to come. Overall, Alyssa Roberts had a great first Homecoming experience and is already looking forward to next year.
