Skit Night is always unpredictable, but for Josie Deats, it was pure fun from start to finish. Her class skit started with the show of the Grammys, only for their rival, the Royals, to crash the party and steal the disco. To get it back, the Grammys had to travel into the ‘70s, where they met people who could help them defeat the Royals. They then traveled back where a wild dance battle broke out between sequins, bell bottoms, and crowns. In the end, the Grammys came out on top, reclaiming their disco in fashion.
The idea came from a mix of the class theme, the Homecoming theme, and a little rivalry from the opposing school. “It was fun to find a way to make it all fit together,” Josie explained. This theme stuck because the idea was great, and the skit would be even better. The final product was full of energy and a lot of laughs.
Josie’s role was the announcer, and it was exactly what she wanted. “I had a lot of lines and got to wear a cute outfit,” she said. She loved being the voice of the skit and keeping the crowd hooked through the performance. She was able to guide the crowd through the story and be a part of both sides of the story.
Of course, nothing ever goes perfectly on stage. “The horse was running around the whole time, and everyone kept falling,” Josie laughed. “It wasn’t planned, but it definitely made the skit more memorable.” The hardest part, though, was behind the scenes: “The backdrops were a nightmare since there was no Velcro to hold them up.”
Even with the chaos, Josie wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again. “It was so fun. I made so many new friends and memories that I’ll never forget.”
