For most students at Sunlake high school, Homecoming is one of the most exciting weeks of the year, full of school spirit, dress up days and of course the big football game. For junior Alissa Brunton, this year’s Homecoming held a unique significance: she was nominated to Homecoming Court for the second time, and this time, she shared the experience with her boyfriend, Nathan. “I did run and win Homecoming Court freshman year,” Alissa said. “However, I decided to run this year with my boyfriend Nathan so we could experience it together.” Although juniors aren’t always the majority on court, her involvement and positive reputation made her a natural choice. The week was packed with events from themed dress-up days to pep rallies but for Alissa, the highlights were the court ceremony at the Homecoming football game and the dance. “My favorite part of Homecoming week was court and the dance itself,” Alissa shared. “It was super fun getting to see and talk to my friends at the game, and the dance was super fun. I got to dance with my friends and my boyfriend.” This year Court was held before the game instead of at half time due to different factors that led to this decision. Walking alongside Nathan, Alissa said the whole experience felt both exciting and special. “It felt amazing to be able to represent Sunlake, specifically the junior class,” she said. “Being alongside Nathan was super memorable for me.” Even though Alissa doesn’t plan to run again next year, she says this Homecoming will always stand out in her memory. “I don’t plan on running for court next year,” she said. “However, it was a moment that stands out to me.” For Alissa this years homecoming was more then just a dance it was a shared experience and memory she will carry into her senior year.
