Sunlake High School athletics had a busy week filled with competition, victories, and hard-fought battles. From the golf course to the football field, Seahawks showed their spirit and determination in every sport.The week began on Monday, September 22nd, with the girls’ golf team earning a strong win over Wesley Chapel, 209–262. It was a memorable match as some of the lower-ranked golfers had the chance to compete and showcase their talent, proving the depth and promise within the program.
On Tuesday, September 23rd, the volleyball team took on Plant High School in a special Children’s Cancer Awareness match. Although Sunlake fell 0–3, the game carried meaning beyond the scoreboard, reminding everyone of the importance of community support and raising awareness.
The action continued on Wednesday, September 24th, with Swim & Dive facing Mitchell High School. The boys’ team fought hard but narrowly lost 84–98, while the girls’ team powered to an impressive 107–69 victory, showing their dominance in the pool.
The girls’ golf team returned to competition on Thursday, September 25th, against River Ridge High School, earning another victory with a score of 165–172. The highlight of the match came as four Sunlake golfers shot their personal bests, showcasing just how much their hard work is paying off.
Friday night lights brought a tough test for varsity football on September 26th, as Sunlake went up against Wiregrass Ranch. Despite their effort and determination, the Seahawks fell 7–47. The loss was a tough one, but it also served as an opportunity for the team to learn and prepare for the rest of the season.
The week closed on a high note with cross country competing at Weeki Wachee on Saturday, September 27th. Sunlake’s runners battled through a difficult course of sand and grass to claim victory, proving their grit and resilience.
In addition to the competitions, from Tuesday through Thursday the soccer teams held conditioning sessions, building a foundation of strength and stamina for their upcoming season.
Overall, it was a week of highs and lows, but one that reflected the determination and spirit of Sunlake athletes. From personal bests and big wins to valuable lessons learned in defeat, the Seahawks continue to push forward with pride and perseverance.
