Apollo Trusnik is currently a Junior here at Sunlake, and he’s already developed a solid routine over the first few weeks. His current classes are Marine Science, AP English, Creative Photography, Spanish 2, Algebra 2, and US History. No matter what subject, Apollo studies for 15 minutes a day for each class after school to stay caught up with his schoolwork. When asked how he was able to study so consistently every day, he gave this response: “The one time I didn’t study was the one test I got like a 40% on so I don’t chance it anymore.” Some folks may have different initial talent levels when it comes to being academically smart, but those who have the persistence and commitment to study every day regardless of talent are admirable. When it comes to learning, some students are naturals and can pass with high scores without studying. Others may struggle a bit but still push themselves to get the lesson through their head; a feat arguably more inspiring than just being born gifted.
Of course, Apollo has his own likes and dislikes when it comes to subjects as well. While he is a fan of his English class, Apollo still struggles a bit when it comes to math. When asked if he remembered anything from his math class earlier today, he gave the truly deliberate, extensive, and elaborative response of “No.” He has been able to keep his grade afloat, however, due to his study habits. On the other hand, Apollo is much more fond of his AP English class, mainly due to being able to work with his friends. Having someone to talk to when working can make the work feel a lot more manageable. Finishing early may give students free time to chat with their friends as well, which is another incentive to finish quickly. While Apollo may not be considered the most gifted student here at Sunlake, his study and work habits are something to look up to and have given him the ability to keep pushing through his classes.
