For many students, homecoming means the world! Of course, this was no different for senior Ian Laari, who was crowned homecoming king! Before the dance, all the students who were running for court got to ride around in an awesome Jeep, and the winners were soon announced! According to Ian, “being homecoming king was genuinely unexpected for me. I was anticipating making homecoming court, but I was honored to be appreciated enough by the class of 2026 to be crowned as king. It was a great experience.” Of course, as a senior, emotions were high for Ian during his last homecoming. But, he was sure to live it up, saying, “Senior homecoming was a big mix of emotions. On one hand, I’m proud of not only how far I’ve come through high school, but also how far my friends and other classmates have come. On the other hand, it’s sad to know that this is the last year we will all be together, but I think it’s best to focus on what we’ve done at Sunlake and how much potential we have for the future.”
As far as the dance and the week leading up to homecoming, Ian had an excellent time enjoying all the festivities. He had this to say about the week leading up to the dance, and the overall atmosphere of the event: “I would say the energy at the dance this year was pretty lacking, to be honest. There were certainly a bunch of people having the time of their lives, but I think that because the DJ was lacking, the atmosphere of the dance suffered. I would say this dance couldn’t compare to some of the past years we have had. But, this homecoming week as a whole, specifically skit and powder puff, made it the most memorable homecoming for me. My favorite memory from the dance was just after the court ceremony. After the odd, formal court walks and dances, a lot of people started feeling the dance a whole lot more, and there was noticeably more energy.”
All in all, Ian Laari enjoyed his last homecoming experience of high school, where he made new memories and was crowned senior homecoming king! He is looking forward to everything that his senior year has in store for the very near future.
