Mia Fackler is a junior here at Sunlake and is a member of the swim team. A few weeks ago, the Sunlake students had a much needed four-day weekend. Mia said that she “spent some time resting and enjoying the extra time I had! My cousin came into town on Saturday, so I got to spend time with her and go to church with her on Sunday! On Monday, I had swim practice in the afternoon, and Tuesday morning I had practice at school from 6:30-7:30. Tuesday night, I had a swim meet against Lecanto and loved spending time with my friends!!”
The event she commonly competes in is 100 meter breaststroke which is what she did against Lecanto. Mia stated that, “I love swimming the 100 breast because it’s my favorite stroke and has been my favorite event since freshman year. I spend a lot of time in practice training specifically to swim it, and I really love competing it to see the hard work pay off.” She got to do her favorite stroke and test her endurance during the Lecanto meet. She gets to test and train her mental and physical strength each time she gets in the pool to swim. In the end Sunlake overcame the opposing team and won the meet. To celebrate the win, the team went to Chipotle, the go-to place to reflect a loss or celebrate a great win.
As stated above, Mia first started high school swim her freshman year. Before she decided to join the team, she had experience in synchronized swimming. When asked what she felt about joining, she replied saying “I swam when I was younger, but this was an entire new experience for me. I really found a passion in swimming and a love for the sport.” Very soon the swim team is going to Districts and into the championship season. “There’s a lot of training that goes into it, but I love to find the fun in it all. Conference and Districts and meets like those are even more competitive and challenging on a different level, but so so much fun; and I love spending time with my team!” This nerve racking experience is one that not many get to do so, let’s cheer on Mia Fackler and all of the swim ream as they hopefully bring us some wins.
