The Art Club Comeback
February 28, 2023
The National Arts Honor Society has returned to Sunlake this year, and senior Felix Nguyen is proud to be the club president. He says, “I wanted the president position because I really enjoy creating art and I wanted to make Sunlake have more art related activities.” Since it’s the first year the NAHS is back, Felix needed to help get the club back up and running to provide a creative community at Sunlake. One of his aims for the club is “to build a stronger community surrounding art at Sunlake, in which people can talk and get advice throughout their art process.” Felix has been able to help many people reach their artistic goals through the club and in other activities. He says, “I’ve been able to help people through communication with outside communities that are [in] need of volunteering work in relations with artistic skills. In addition, I’ve been able to help provide volunteering opportunities to the members in the club as well.” With his new position this year, Felix says “I pretty much have full power as president. I direct meetings, plan out events, and communicate with outside places for volunteering events.” But being the president of the club has also helped Felix improve himself. He says, “This position has helped build my confidence in public speaking as well as my skills in leading people.” While being in the club and in art classes, Felix has made many friends and memories. He says, “my favorite memories during art class is the random but fun conversations I have with my friends during class as we worked on our art pieces.” With the foundation that Felix and the class of 2023 have set for the art classes NAHS, the art environment at Sunlake will continue to thrive after Felix and the other seniors graduate.
