Helping Out With Friends and Family

Abigail Wolliams

Junior Abigail Williams helped out at the Rec Center this Saturday with the NAHS. She was able to hang out with friends and face-paint kids with her art skills. She says, “I’ve actually been able to bond with my friends and family while volunteering, because when they come volunteer with me, we can still have a fun time together.”

Junior Abigail Williams has volunteered at many places like sports games, sporting events and camps, and events for kids. She says, “It’s easy for me to get involved because I have participated in sports and clubs all of my life, so I have connections to various coaches who need help with their events.” It’s nice to have a history with people that you can help later on like coaches, teachers, or other leaders. Abigail also says, “Both of my parents are teachers, so this also helps me in finding opportunities to volunteer.”

Volunteering is fun as is, but it makes it much more fun when there are friends or family involved. Abigail says “I’ve actually been able to bond with my friends and family while volunteering because when they come volunteer with me, we can still have a fun time together.” Abigail and her friends have connected while being “ball girls” at soccer games, and they have also recorded times at track and swim meets. She says, “One of my favorite memories of volunteering was a couple [of] years ago when I acted as a witch with my brother for a Halloween train ride for kids.” Volunteering not only helps other people, but it can also help the volunteer. Abigail says, “Volunteering has helped me with school because it allows me to participate in clubs like the NHS and the NAHS, and it makes me feel more involved.”
