To kick off this football season, the Seahawk football team brought Friday Night Lights back in their preseason matchup with The Villages Charter School. After an entire replacement of the coaching staff as well as a handful of new and young players, the Seahawks put up a good fight but still came out with a loss in their preseason game. For Senior Charlie Newport, he believes there is hope for the season. He explained that the team “…didn’t preform as we wanted to but it was our first game under a new head coach so nobody can expect perfection. Since it was a game that did not count towards our record, everybody was able to go out, do their thing, and have fun while a loss would not hang heavy over our heads.” He also says, “Throughout the game we all made just to many simple mistakes that set us up for the loss. The mistakes made were very easy to fix so I believe that we will bounce back and play a lot better than most people think we will this season.” As this is Charlie’s final year playing football, he hopes it to make it the best one and reflects on his past years. He shared that “…with this being my last season playing football for Sunlake, I think some of my favorite moments were always Butterbowl. The energy was always through the roof for the fans and the teams. Win or lose, the game just means so much more. Each player just has a certain spark inside of them that turns to a flame and both teams play the best game of football they’ve ever played in their life, which is what always makes it a close and exciting game.” Charlie hopes to have a great season and keep the team moral as positive as it can be.
