There is no better way for students to learn about the environment than to immerse themselves in it. Students in AP Environmental had the amazing opportunity to dive into the Florida landscape at the Energy and Marine Center. One of these students, Gabrielle Patierno, a junior at Sunlake, attended this field trip and enjoyed “…using nets to catch a bunch of different fish and crab species and getting to hold and learn about them.” This was one of the many activities environmental students got to participate in known as net fishing. Along with that, Gabrielle shared that she “…got the chance to go kayaking, learn about soil, and play around with clay harvested from the ground.” All of these activities gave students new knowledge of the environment. She was able to take away new understanding of “…different components of soil, how the EMC works, and different species of marine life.” The field trip gave students fascinating insight into what makes our world what it is today.
