As Hurricane Idalia strikes the Florida mainland, schools close and students get days off in their week. Sunlake was one of those schools, striking both fear and excitement for students as they get 2 days off from school. While some stayed home, others took advantage of their free days. For Junior Skylar Tedora, she thought she was staying home, enjoying her birthday with her mom and sister. In secret planning, her friends organized a surprise party for her at her house. “I was not expecting it at all and made my day,” she says. When asked what her and her friends did she said, “We had food at my house, hung out, and then we went to Target and watched movies after.” Despite the impending hurricane, Skylar said: “The weather wasn’t even bad, it was the perfect day to have a party.” To finish she says, “Having a surprise birthday party for me really made my hurricane break amazing.”
