Senior Charlie Newport is on Sunlake’s Varsity football team! This week the boys played Palm Harbor where they unfortunately lost 35-2. Charlie has always been very dedicated, especially when it comes to football. Charlie stated, “My experience with football has been like a roller coaster, there have been a lot of ups and a whole lot of downs. The overall experience has been great since I have been able to grow as a person, learn to overcome adversity, and make lifelong friends.” In the game against Palm Harbor, Charlie played well and made some great plays, like a sack and two tackles for loss. Charlie said, “Regarding football, my senior year is different than other years.” This year I have been able to really step up and become a leader for the team so I can try to help keep the younger guys on the team together and start to steer the program in the right direction for future years. I am dedicated to football because I promised myself as a kid that I would go chase my dreams and never let anybody make me quit. Football is also an outlet for me because every time I step on the field, in between all the other emotions I am feeling during the game, the one thing I consistently feel is happiness.” Charlie has dedicated himself to constantly working and getting better at the game so he can play in college and play football for as long as he can!
