Lights, cameras, HOCO! It’s Homecoming week Seahawks! Boys are getting their haircuts and suits fitted. Girls are getting their hair, nails, and makeup done. Proposals for cute couples are in abundance. Plus, many fun activities and events are taking place. The themes for the week include Future me Monday, Tunes Tuesday, Genre Day, Rhyme Without Reason, and Spirit Day. Special events scheduled for the week are none other than Powder Puff. Skit Night, and the homecoming game against Nature Coast High School.
This week is a very stressful week for junior Melissa Dahmer, the president for her class. When asked to compare this week to freshman year’s, she said, “…you don’t consider as many things as you do when you’re a little older.” This year, she is in charge of making sure everyone in student council has a task assigned to them; this is important to get all the events set up and ensure the smaller details like dress-up days are known to the student body. She believes that there is “…definitely room for improvement, but overall, we’re doing pretty good.” When asked about what the most stressful thing about her week was, she mentioned skit night; this is because of all the final preparations that had to be done, such as making sure the dances were on point and the scenes were memorized. The most exciting thing about the week was playing the Powder Puff game and having the honor of announcing the HOCO court at Friday night’s game.
For Melissa, the dress-up days are not just any other day. She said, “I take dressing up very seriously.” She commented that her favorite days were a tie between dressing up as an “… abuela…” on Monday, a rapper on Tuesday, and Virgin Mary on Thursday. She wouldn’t change a thing about the dress up day’s themes for this year. According to Melissa, Powder Puff was a huge success for the juniors. Participating in it herself, she was the center during the attack. They had a few practices, but they put in the work and made it happen. The girls crushed the football part and won against the sophomores and seniors. She was also very proud of the boys since they practiced their cheer routine for two months and on the day of, they cheered their hearts out. She is excited to attend Friday night’s game in hopes that we will win. The most special night of the week is Saturday – the dance! Melissa is ready to get prettied up and walk that red carpet.
