Involved and bubbly senior, Isabel Ramos, has been working hard in Sunlake’s theater department. This year she currently holds the role of president for our school’s drama club. Isabel organizes events and activities for the club such as attending meetings for the International Thespian Society. She loves “…drama club because it’s like a very tight-knit family and it’s easy to make friends.” Her favorite school production that she has participated in was the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She enjoyed participating last year because ” …it’s a ’60s musical and it was very fun to be a part of.” Isabel’s love for theater began because of the movies she watched growing up. “It’s not theater exactly, but I liked just seeing the emotions on the screen and I thought I want to do something like that,” she explained.
Sunlake’s theater program thrives for success even with the resources available. Even though “…it’s small, it has been growing a lot more” with increasing student involvement. Isabel is proud of all the shows and musicals our theater department and drama club have been able to do. She is grateful for all the accomplishments and believes the program has a good foundation.
This year our Sunlake Theater department is putting on the ancient Greek tragedy written by Euripides, Medea. Isabel Ramos is playing the lead role of Medea. She shares how “…it is very exciting, rehearsals have been really fun because we have never done a show this serious at Sunlake.” Most of Sunlake’s past productions have been more on the light and comedic side; this is one of our school’s first tragedies the group has worked to put on. The play is a “…lot more demanding,” but the drama club members are still enthusiastic about the upcoming opening night.
