September 11th, 2001, was a day that will be talked about in American history for the rest of time. 9/11 was a day that brough unity and tremendous change to the American people in the snap of a finger. The attacks of September 11th hold heavy impact on people not even born yet. Senior Pietro Ancona is from Long Island, New York, and lived there for close to 16 years. As every New Yorker will tell you, 9/11 was an extremely memorable moment. When asked what 9/11 means to him, Pietro said, “9/11 to me was the moment in our nation’s history where our adversity and nationalistic values were challenged the greatest, especially for New Yorkers. The devastating event caused thousands of deaths, and people in New York were challenged with risking their own lives to save those of others. Anywhere from fighter fighters to policemen to few random civilians, many people ran into those burning, collapsing buildings in attempts to save whoever they could. Many who did so and are still alive today actually are still affected from the event, physically and mentally. From the stories I’ve been told by my family, to what I’ve learned in school and seen at the 9/11 memorial in New York City, I’ve learned from 9/11 that our nation is filled with many strong people with heart and care for one another. The fact that an event as tragic as that didn’t separate our nation, but instead brought everyone closer, I don’t know what could pull our nation apart.”
