With the 2023-2024 season back up and running for Sunlake Football, the Seahawks are yet again on a journey for a rough season. After winning their first game against Wesley Chapel, they have had 3 straight losses since, one against Palm Harbor University, another against Cypress Creek, and the most recent loss to Springstead. With an entirely new coaching staff, the Seahawks have been hoping to get a good season back since coaching issues at the beginning of last season. However, long-time players keep their heads up and give their all.
Senior Zack Phillips has played football all 4 years at Sunlake. He played football for the majority of his childhood and still enjoys it today. When asked about his game against PHU, Zack says, “My experience at PHU was a good experience. It taught me my positives and negatives in football and what I need to work on for the next game. I personally think I did okay, most definitely could have been better, but overall for the team, we played our heart out and gave it what we got.” Zack’s view about his team’s losses is positive. “Although all the losses, this team is still fighting and putting in work to look forward to the next game, it doesn’t matter who we play, they are always ready.” A good attitude no matter what happens on the field is beyond crucial to have in regard to team morale. Zack’s positivity radiates around the team as he continues giving his all. As Zack is a senior, it is his last year playing football for Sunlake and he hopes to make the best out of it. “With this being my last season, my favorite moments were just bonding and getting to know the game of football falling in love with the sport, and hoping to go on and play into the next level.” To finish off, he says, “But even through the ups and downs throughout my high school football career, I still love this team and will always have a love for football.”
