In Land O’ Lakes, the Sunlake boys’ golf team has been very strong over the years. Junior Maximus Haines, along with his teammates, are looking forward to getting further into their season. At the current moment in their season, Maximus says, “…the season has been going pretty good and it is always fun.” With the guys starting back a few weeks ago, they are looking to get going full swing into the season. In all sports, to have a somewhat successful team, you need a working coach . Maximus says, “I really like our coach.” He also adds: “Coach Adams is really fun and always keeps us dialed in.” Any team needs a good relationships between coach and player for the season to run smoothly; going by what Maximus has to say, the Sunlake boys’ golf team has a working relationship.
Outside of Sunlake, Maximus says he has been playing golf since he was a kid around “…probably 6 or 7 years old.” Starting a sport at a young age allows time to improve and practice your craft over and over to potentially become a top player in your area, state, or even nation. Over the years Maximus has spent playing golf, he states his favorite thing is “…how quickly things can change… one hole you can be fine then one little thing goes wrong with your swing and you can fall apart fast… and everything is now not your way.” Maximus enjoys the small details that go into the game, which can change the outcome of the match. Maximus himself has been a very successful golfer in his high school career. He is 1st in the school and top 75 in the state.
When it comes to school golf, Sunlake is about the top 160 school in the state and hopes to climb up at the end of this season and send multiple athletes to the state championship. Within their season, Maximus is looking forward to playing against Cypress creek; he says, “they have been runner up at the conference tournament for the last two years but beat us both times in the regular season.” Maximus is looking forward to the redemption match and proving to Cypress yet again why Sunlake is the better school at golf. All sports at Sunlake hope to keep their record good throughout the season in hopes to be successful in district and regional play. Every athlete is hoping to be apart of the team that makes history and brings a state championship back to the school.
