Homecoming Week – Students Dress Up
Every year, Sunlake has events that allow the student body to explore their passions, get social with other students, and provide a positive relationship with the local community. Events such as these are important in keeping students, faculty, and those involved with the school excited and engaged. One such event, which took place over the week of September 18, was the Homecoming dress up days. During the week leading up to the football game and dance, students were encouraged to dress up according to a different theme each day of the week. On Tuesday—creatively dubbed “Tunes Tuesday”—students were to dress up as something related to music (an album, artist, song theme, etc.).
As part of the dress up days, each day a pair of students would be chosen from each class (freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors) to represent said class for the theme of that day. In a somewhat chaotic vote, one pair would be chosen as the winners for the theme of that day. On Tuesday, the winners were seniors Davin Grable and Laeticia Raad.
Presenting: The Winners of Tunes Tuesday
Davin Grable and Laeticia Raad dressed up for the Tunes Tuesday theme day and won the competition for the best costumes. “I participated in Tunes Tuesday because I figured that while it’s my senior year, I should live a good life to the fullest,” Davin explained when asked why he partook in the dress up day. Laeticia also commented on her reason for dressing up, saying, “I look forward to Homecoming week every year and I always participate because it is so much fun to wear a costume at school.” Laeticia also mentioned how much fun it is to come up with creative and original costumes to wear during the Homecoming dress up days. Participation in events such as the Homecoming dress up days keep school spirt alive and thriving!
The two seniors were asked about who they dressed up as, with Davin explaining he dressed as “…a member of the popular French Rock/EDM duo Daft Punk.” Davin explained that the duo were responsible for hits such as Get Lucky and Starboy. Davin further explained that he dressed as Daft Punk as he “…always loved the band and figured [he’d] show said adoration.” Laeticia explained that she dressed up as “…Katy Perry from the Roar music video.” Laeticia said she dressed up as Katy Perry as she “…wanted to dress up as an iconic singer with a memorable look.” Laeticia also said, “Roar was a great music video and was super popular when it came out and Katy Perry is the perfect amount of weird for a celebrity.”
There are a great number of other school events that take place during the year, but Homecoming remains an extremely anticipated event. Each day of Homecoming week carries its own stories, and Davin Grable and Laeticia Raad’s experiences are just a fraction of all the great times students have during busy times such as Homecoming. The more who participate, the better the event becomes! Laeticia even commented on the participation of fellow students, saying “I love seeing everyone’s costumes in the morning and taking pictures. I am honestly never nervous to dress up for [Homecoming] week. Its cool to dress up!” It’s great that students partake in events such as these—it can really brighten the atmosphere at Sunlake and encourage others to get involved with events too!
