Rally up the troops! The pep rally for the Homecoming football game took place on Friday the 22nd at the Sunlake stadium. The football players were on the field and ready to get some hype before the big game. The cheerleaders encouraged the students to cheer on the school from the stands. The seniors displayed their school spirit by performing their class skit. Their performance was originally supposed to happen on Wednesday, but due to bad weather and safety concerns, it was canceled and rescheduled for the following Monday. The seniors didn’t want to wait that long, so to compromise, they asked if they could do the show during the pep rally. To their surprise, it was approved and they were able to show off their hard work.
Each student has their own opinion of the pep rally. Senior, Adam Spina, spoke about his experience being there as a participant in the senior skit. He had to leave early from class to get ready to perform. The pep rally also affected his schedule since he is in marching band and practices were at the same time as skit practices. He only made it to four practices total. Nonetheless, the seniors practiced for about an hour long every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday leading up to the skit night. Adam said, “…school would get out and its off to practice. I didn’t even get homework done; I saved that till nine o’clock.”
He was dressed as Kenickie Murdoch from Grease. Adam wore “…this huge leather jacket that I borrowed from my mom (which she used to wear when she went to high school), I had a white shirt and jeans, plus some cool sunglasses.” When asked if his role was hard to learn he commented,”…it wasn’t the most difficult thing in the world.” For Adam, this was just another typical performance in front of the school due to his experience in marching band. He mentioned that “…there was a lot of anxiety around it and everyone was like, oh God, we gotta do it right, is there anything that’s going to go wrong. Overall, it felt great and I think everything went around the way it was supposed to.” He enjoyed performing the skit and thought it was very fun to act out his scenes alongside his friends. Adam’s favorite part of the skit was “… scene three. That was the one where we danced with the superheroes and all my best friends were the superheroes.” There were also some funny scenes like, “…when Thor threw his hammer and I tried to pick it back up.”
Adam felt that the pep rally was a bit rushed. Other than the senior skit, nothing extra really happened. However, Seymour The Seahawk did make an appearance to pump up the crowd. When asked if he would change anything about the pep rally, he said, “…if i could snap away the weather, I absolutely would.”
