Mr. Poll teaches US History Honors at Sunlake High School and has been teaching for 20 years in Pasco County. Mr. Poll states: “What I look for most in students is being receptive, involved, and engaged in the classroom.” He started off teaching physical education for almost sixteen years, but enjoyed history, so he signed up to take a test and started teaching the subject. When asked why he wanted to teach in a high school, Mr. Poll said, “Because I just wanted to, I do not have a reason.” Right now, he is teaching his students about historical farm issues and the populist party movement. If he could teach any other subject, he would teach the US Government class, which is still in the history field.
Mr. Poll is a class sponsor and gets to volunteer for school events throughout the year. “I’m a freshman class sponsor, so it’s kind of my duty to go places to help out,” said Mr. Poll. Skit, a small play that takes place during Homecoming Week, was moved to Monday, September 25th due to weather problems. It was one of the events this week that Mr. Poll volunteered for. He liked that the kids in the play could work together, and it was a great experience.
