The Sunlake varsity volleyball team has had an outstanding season so far, as they finished their regular season undefeated. Their last conference game at Zephyrhills High School led them to being Conference Champions. Junior and starting libero on the team, Vanessa Sierra, shares her thoughts and excitement for the big victory. She says, “…I felt like it was deserved by our team since we work so hard to get where we are.” When the team isn’t at a game, they are in the gym practicing whatever it is that they need to work on to beat their upcoming opponents. Becoming Conference Champions is only the beginning of the accomplishments that these girls see in the season’s future. “…I hope we get to states for the first time,” says Vanessa, as this will be a huge victory for the team as well as Sunlake High School. She believes that the team can get there by “…working harder in practice and putting our all into our remaining games.” Vanessa has pride for her team, and as this is her third year being on varsity, she has seen their growth and how they “…are learning to keep pushing for a victory, event when we are the underdogs in the situation.” As the regular season comes to an end, the girls are ready to face districts and regionals with lots of skill and positivity.
