The final theme of Homecoming Week was Sunlake Spirit Day. This Friday, the Seahawks did their absolute best work, dressing head to toe in teal and gold. One of the students even covered himself in teal body paint. This student was junior Tyler Dunbar, who took inspiration from Sunlake’s mascot, Seymour. He said he wanted to “…live by the Seahawk, and die by the Seahawk” and showed the school how he did exactly that. During Homecoming Week, students are allowed to bend the dress code in order to fit the theme. For example, students are typically told to remove their hats in class if they are wearing one, but this week, students could rock the headwear. However, Dunbar took this rule bending to the next level. His outfit of choice included the paint being directly put on his skin, meaning he was not wearing a shirt to school. At first he received a bunch of laughs and praise from classmates, but began to run into the problem of dress code. Luckily, he was able to be strategic and find a way around it “…to really spread the Seahawk spirit.” Living and dying by the Seahawk, in Dunbar’s eyes, meant putting himself at risk in order to spread school spirit. Unsurprisingly, this junior dressed up all the other days, and this one was his favorite by far. Dunbar was additionally involved in the daily morning parades and found them very enjoyable. He thought “…it was a fun time to chill with friends before classes for the next six hours.” It was a refreshing moment to bring some excitement to school before the day began. While his outfit for spirit day seemed like he went as all out as possible, he plans to do even more next year. He desires ending off his high school experience with a bang and wants to “…live life to the fullest…”, which is exactly what he did.
