This Friday was the final day of Homecoming Week for the Sunlake Seahawks. The theme of the day was Sunlake Spirit. On the last day of spirit week, it is typical for seniors to be victorious because it is their last day of homecoming week ever. However, this year the agenda was switched around and the juniors took home the win. Junior Emma Stephens was one of the winners from this day, alongside her classmate, Tyler Dunbar. Emma went all out in her spirit gear, wearing a Seahawks football shirt, a teal feather boa, black shoes, a gold cape, teal and gold beads, and a gold cowboy hat. Her focus was on the “…three school colors, black, gold, and teal to make [her] outfit.” Focusing on these three colors, she made sure all the little details fit the theme, as well. Even down to the color of her shorts, she kept the Sunlake spirit. She clearly put a great amount of effort and thought into her outfit, so she was happy to win. Especially as a junior, this was a great experience for her. Unlike some of the other Seahawks, she did not have any issues with dress code. Though her cowboy hat slightly bent these rules, this bending was permitted during Homecoming Week. Since she is a student of great school spirit, Emma dressed up all the other days too. Similar to many other students, Emma had fun during the parades in the morning preceding the school day. She enjoyed spending this time looking at “…everyone’s cool outfits and [taking] pictures” with her friends. Emma plans to continue this tradition and take it to the next level as a senior next year. It was an awesome victory for the juniors to be able to take the win for the final day of homecoming week, and break the tradition of seniors usually winning. Emma is going to kill it next year and advises “…everyone be prepared!”
