Homecoming Skit and Powderpuff are two of the most exciting components of Homecoming week. Sunlake High School sophomore, Ian Larri, had tons of fun as he participated in each of these events.
This years sophomore skit followed a football player, Millie, and her experiences through multiple worlds after being hit in the head with a magical football; all of this happened while she was being chased by a maniac. In the skit, Ian played the role of a football player who was a friend of the main character, Millie. Leading up to the skit, the sophomores practiced almost everyday for five to six weeks leading up to Homecoming week. Ian helped to complete many tasks during the process. He mentions that, “I had to help out making many props, and I had to make a list and create an order for the costumes and supplies that we needed.” After all of the organization and practice, came skit night and the production turned out to be wonderful for both of the viewers and the students participating in the skit. Ian had absolutely no nervousness during the play, and he said that behind the scenes it was, “very quiet and we were focused on putting up and taking down backdrops.”
After the play, the sophomores had thought that all of their hard work had paid off, and had lead to a fun night for both the people watching and the sophomores that had participated. In comparison to his freshman year skit, Ian said that, “This years skit, compared to last year, had a lot more people, and overall had a more put together script and use of props.” The sophomores ended up winning third place with the winners of all of the skits being the seniors. Ian said that the seniors, “…had the most well thought out and well prepared skit,” and that, “…they were deserving.” During the school year that follows this one, Ian hopes to help improve the skit production for his junior year. He proposes that, “Next year, we are going to focus a lot more on making sure our skit is well understood by everyone before performing, and to make sure that more people understand and do the dances.” Despite placing third, Skit was lively for everyone that participated, and especially from the perspective of Ian Larri.
