Some of Sunlake’s juniors and seniors went on a college tour trip to visit FGSU, FAU, FIU, Lynn, Flagler, UNF, UCF, FSU, and UF. Junior Charles Miller said, “I decided to go because I wanted to visit and experience the different college campuses personally. I wanted to see as many of them as possible so I would have a good idea of what I wanted in college. None of my friends went with me, but I met people along the way so I wasn’t at all lonely. There were a ton of people I met there; I don’t think I can list all of them. The chaperones were Seth, the tour guide, Ms. Black and Ms. Chaimberlain (the counselor at Mitchell High School), and this other guy who I didn’t know, but he was pretty nice.”
Recalling his experience, Charles also explained, “I had a ton of fun with the people I met and exploring all the different campuses. It got a bit tiring at times but I still took a lot of notes and had a great time. Definitely a great experience that I will remember. This trip made me explore college campuses and helped me find what I want in a college and what vibes I’m going for. The thing is, college campuses can have completely different atmospheres and completely different vibes. Going on this trip really helps a student find the right kind of environment they want and what they’re looking for when they go to college. Another reason: it helps more than just touring a bunch of colleges online. Experiencing all the colleges firsthand back to back let’s you really analyze what you liked and disliked about each college in a way you can’t really get anywhere else.”
Like Charles, many students this year and last year have loved the college trip. Not only can students take away brochures and course outlines, but new dreams and a clearer vision of their future too. This trip served as a reminder that planning for the future doesn’t just mean selecting a major or a college—it’s about setting a foundation for the life they aspire to lead. Each step taken on that campus was a step closer to their dreams, showing that with dedication and foresight, the future is bright and full of promise.
