Here at Sunlake students finish their first day of Homecoming week with the inaugural tradition of Powderpuff. This tradition, where boys become cheerleaders and girls become football players, is a very popular and well known event where students can represent their class in strong spirit and compete for a 1st place spot. In most cases, Seniors will take this 1st place spot due to seniority and bias, but this year’s girls powderpuff took an unexpected turn. After destroying the freshman 21-0, the juniors met the seniors in the championship game and gave them a battle. Nobody expected it, but the juniors came out on top, beating the seniors 14-7 in the annual powderpuff event.
One of the girl football players, Junior Kailey Morgan, shares her experiences and her POV of powderpuff. When asked about her overall experience, she says, “It was a very good experience this year, as you know juniors won so it made it all the better. I was so glad to be a part of a determined team.” Kailey contributed greatly to the 2025 win. ” I played defensive end, it’s part of the defense line. I enjoyed playing this position because I was able to contribute to the team the whole time.” As of her own POV of the event, Kailey says, “As a player, my favorite part of participating in powderpuff was seeing everyone work so hard and ultimately win. Even though some people may not like each other, it was nice to see everyone come together to play.” The juniors came together as a strong team, practicing hard 3 days a week to earn their win. Kailey says she would love to play next year and get another win. Unfortunately, the entire senior class won powderpuff due to their stellar boys cheerleading performance. To finish, Kailey says, “I was just very proud of the team this year and everyone’s efforts that led to us winning this year.”
