Sunlake’s girls swim team has been hard at work honing their skills in preparation for tournaments. Recently, the team had their senior night meet. Weather can be an issue, considering the fact that water and lightning don’t mix well. Senior Ava Edwards explained that “…unfortunately it was delayed for two hours because of storms.” But the meeting did, ultimately, occur. Ava further explained “…we were able to get to the normal celebratory activities outside of the Land O Lakes Rec Center instead of the pool deck.” The meeting ended by 9:45pm.
Similar to most other sports teams, the swim team has many meets throughout the season. Ava talked about her experience with the team, saying “I can always count on the team to encourage me.” But every strong team must have a leader; coaches are an important part of any sports team. They build players up and keep the team motivated. “Coach Guerby is the head coach of the boys and the girls teams. He is an excellent mentor and does a great job at lifting the energy on the team,” Ava said, when asked about her coach. Ava further explained that “Coach Guerby has a positive outlook on any situation and is very knowledgeable about the sport.” Being able to turn to a coach for questions or guidance is vital to one’s success on a sports team.
Sunlake’s swim team is a group of dedicated players, with a variety of skills all thanks to their hard work. The swim team truly is an amazing team to be apart of!
