During the week of 10/2-10/6, Sunlake held a college fair for students to sign up and talk to admission workers. When you participate, you learn about new colleges and also get important information, such as, what the admission office is looking for in applications. Junior Zayda Thomas attended the college fair for the first time to get a better knowledge about the whole college process and some schools she is interested in. Zayda said overall, “…the college fair was helpful for me to get a better idea of majors I could take and what schools had my interests. It didn’t really stress me out to see all of the colleges, but I definitely saw a lot of my friends getting stressed out.” The college fair can be very stressful in some ways if you go into it having no idea what you are looking for. That is why many students plan ahead so they aren’t going into situations with their eyes closed. During junior year, parents and teacher start to push their kids to figure out what their plans are in the future. Going to the college fair, Zayda said, “…helped clarify what classes I should take in high school so that I am more prepared for college. My next steps would be applying for as many scholarships as possible as well as seeing what schools will offer me a spot on their volleyball team.” In this case, the college fair helped Zayda figure out what colleges are looking for and what she can do academically to increase her chances for getting in. Along with that, she discovered more about athletics, specifically volleyball. The college fair overall can really help a student understand more about college and what they look for in a student.
