All the beauty and brawn goes to junior Georgia Crim. She is one of the captains of Sunlake’s girls’ weightlifting team. Georgia loves her teammates and the connections she gets to build with them at school and at practice. The thing she likes most is the “…team community… everyone is welcoming and we all support each other really well. It’s just fun.” Georgia has been lifting since freshman year on the Sunlake team and has made so much progress.
There are multiple events in weightlifting competitions. They include snatch, clean and jerk, and bench. With the weight class of 154 lbs., Georgia has conquered some amazing personal records. Her snatch is 105 lbs, her clean and jerk is 155 lbs, and her pause bench is 125 lbs. Her favorite memory is her most recent clean and jerk of 155. She is so proud because she has “…been working at that for a month and half…” Lifting weights makes Georgia feel “…really good…” and she admits that “everyone has their bad days but like even your bad days you still push yourself… you get a very accomplished feeling.” The sport to Georgia is a “…healthy environment, to just push yourself to be better and it’s very easy to see progress.” Georgia loves lifting because “…it keeps me active and keeps me doing something.” She has gained really important friendships with the girls on the team.
The goal for her as captain is to get the news out about how awesome weightlifting is and grow the team. They want to keep defending their titles in championships, conference, districts, and regionals. Georgia isn’t planning on continuing weightlifting past high school. However, she has learned some very important lessons about lifting and life. Weightlifting is a big mental sport. Georgia says, “You can’t let your mental overcome what you do physically. You have to get your mind ready.” She feels “…like that’s how life works most of the time too.”
