During the second week of October, Sunlake students settle into school and their personal lives. Whether it may be sports, family, or friends, students are having a smooth beginning to this school year. For Freshman Jake Santana, his school year is going very smoothly. As it is his first year in high school, he is slowly getting used to the high school lifestyle. Between baseball, school, and friends Jake finds an even balance between the three to make his high school life as enjoyable as possible.
One of Jake’s favorite hobbies or “lifestyle” as he says is playing baseball. He has played almost all of his life and currently plays for the Sunlake Junior Varsity fall baseball team. Along with school ball, Jake plays with his travel ball team “Empire Baseball” during the weekends. “This past weekend I went to central Florida for a Prospect Wire tournament,” Jake explains that he did very well and so did his team. “I played pretty good, got a few hits, played good defensively, and had a lot of fun,” Jake says. “My favorite part of that tournament was being able to see my team work better together and get better team chemistry.” Team chemistry is crucial for any team in any sport. Jake also says, “I like playing for Empire because some of my teammates from Sunlake also play for that team so we get to have a lot of fun.” Jake looks forward to enjoying the rest of his school year and exceeding in baseball.
