Senior Catherine Carey decided at the last minute to attend the annual Butter Bowl football game. She doesn’t regret this choice in the slightest though, as it turned out to be an eventful evening and a memory she cherishes as a part of her senior year. She says that as a senior, “I’m trying my best to participate in as many school events as possible because it is my last year at Sunlake.” She attended the game with three of her friends.
Unfortunately, this year, Land O’ Lakes High School took the win home in the annual rivalry against Sunlake. Catherine said the loss didn’t take away from the fun of the game though. In fact, in her words, “my favorite part was freaking out with all my friends whenever our team did something stupid.” Catherine has embraced the spirit of the senior year in its entirety. She says she has “…taken on the leadership role of my basketball team at Sunlake.” This requires her to use her experience and knowledge from her four years on the team to lead all the newcomers and returners in their practices and games. She doesn’t want to let any moment of this year slip by without living it to the fullest. Catherine suggests that others do the same, especially with the Butter Bowl game. She “…recommends that everyone goes because even if we don’t win, it’s a staple Sunlake event.” On her quest to live senior year to the fullest, Catherine is slowly but surely checking off the boxes of essential Sunlake events. She may be graduating, but first, she is sure to experience all that her high school has to offer.
