Sunlake recently held a blood drive where students could donate blood easily and conveniently during school hours. Students could leave class, donate, and return to class, making the process simple and accessible.
Junior John Feeney attended Sunlake’s blood drive. “I gave blood because it seemed fun and a good way to be productive. Everyone was nice but I was a little nervous because of all the equipment inside,” John explained. He also mentioned that he was excited, considering the fact that this was his first time giving blood. It was the first time for many students, due in large part to the convenience of having the busses at school during regular class time. John also explained that he felt accomplished afterward when he was told which hospital his blood would be delivered to. John shared that, “The staff made it seem like you were really helping someone out because they told us which hospital our blood was going to.” This opportunity gave students an easy way to help out their community and it can improve participation in similar events.
