It’s spooky season, Seahawks! That means Florida’s definitions of chilly weather, horror movies, ghost stories, and even haunted houses. Although junior Ava Stiglic’s house isn’t haunted, it definitely looks spooky. When asked what the specific theme of her house was, Ava said, “Everything!” The inside of her house is “…ghost themed, mixed with Nightmare before Christmas and the Haunted Mansion.” As for the outside, “my mom just puts up anything she finds cute.” Ava’s family loves Halloween. When it comes to decorating the house, her mom takes it very seriously.
The decorations went up starting at the end of August. According to Ava, they had most of the decorations beforehand. It didn’t take long to set up either. However, her mom continues to go out and buy more. “She’s still decorating,” Ava said. She mentioned that the overall costs of the decorations are in the 1,000-dollar range now! Decorating her house makes “…it feel more inclusive and warmer.” People love to see the house decorated. “No one in my neighborhood really decorated; they were kind of like that house that has everything around it.” Ava admits that Halloween isn’t her favorite season: “My whole family likes it, so I kind of have to like it.” However, she does admit she prefers “the Christmassy and winter season”; these are her favorite because she can snuggle in warm blankets and drink hot chocolate while watching cringey Christmas movies.
