Senior Jillian Moore has been cheering for thirteen years and has cheered for Sunlake all four years of high school on the varsity team. This year she is one of the captains on varsity and has loved being able to help and lead the team. Senior night for her was very bittersweet. It was a culmination of years of hard work and sisterhood, yet a farewell to a chapter of her life that she holds dearly. Jillian stated, “I reflect on the countless pep rallies, cheer practices, football games, and cheer competitions that have defined my cheerleading career and I’m so grateful and appreciative that I was able to experience these things. Senior night has brought me to realize that high school is coming to an end, including my time cheerleading at Sunlake. It’s sad to think about because I cannot imagine a life without cheer.”
Cheer has been more than just a sport for Jillian; it has been her passion and an outlet for her to express herself. Some of the most significant ways cheerleading has influenced Jillian is through the development of teamwork, leadership skills, dedication, and discipline. She is so thankful for all the bonds she has made with coaches and girls on the team. This network of friends she has made have become an integral part of Jillian’s life. They have providing her with a sense of belonging and a foundation of support. Jillian said, “The idea of parting with a sport that has had such an impact on my life and has shaped me into who I am today makes me so sad. I most definitely want to continue cheerleading in college at the collegiate level. Jillian stated, “I love being a part of something that is so inspiring; being able to cheer on the sidelines for some of my dear friends on the football team these past years has been so incredible.” Jillian is so excited for her future and cannot wait to make more memorable memories.
