Sunlake High School Certified Nurse Association Club (CNA), also known as Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), is one of the fastest growing, and most engaging clubs at Sunlake. In this club, students seek to deepen their understanding of what their role would be like in the healthcare system in the future by getting a hands on experience throughout club activities and competition. According to CNA club secretary, senior Sebastian Pineda, goals for the club this school year include, “Mostly growing the club, and helping people have a good base on the club because its new, and to help people learn what role they want to take in the healthcare system in the future.” Sebastian’s role in the club as secretary is to schedule the said competitions that will help students enrolled in the CNA club to expand their knowledge on healthcare professions, as well as sending this information out to members of the club.
CNA meetings are short, and brief. During these meetings, people that hold leadership positions in the club will present new information that is mainly based on their last meeting. In the meeting that they had on Tuesday, November 14th, they mentioned the multiple fundraisers that they wanted to do to fund the club, like candy cane grams, and a hot chocolate table. Then they give students opportunities to sign up for competitions that will take place in the near future. To end the meeting, they ask for questions, and then they see students separately after the meeting ends to discuss competitions with the signees.
