Sunlake High School’s book club brings students together to discuss and explore their love for literature. During their last quarterly meeting, held November 15th, club members talked about the book they finished and debated ideas for the next book they will be starting. Book Club President, senior Danielle Swenson, says that the club is one of her favorites at the school. “Everyone in the club is kind and has a genuine passion for reading,” Danielle said. “It is amazing to discuss characters and plot twists over food with friends.” As president of Book Club, Danielle is in charge of creating activities for meetings and picking book suggestions for members to vote on. Recently, Danielle read The Fixer by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and knew it had to be a choice for the club. “I loved The Fixer because it was action packed, has witty characters, and many plot twists. It was such a fun mystery.”
Along with senior members, new members are always welcome to the meetings! New member Sebastian Pineda recently joined book club because he wanted “…to find more books to read.” What he finds most enjoyable about the club is that he can participate in the discussions and decision of the novel that is chosen next to read. The recently concluded book on the club’s reading list was Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson, a choice that resonated well with the fall and Halloween season, offering members a thematic and engaging experience. The novel’s blend of mystery and intrigue captivated the readers, sparking lively conversations during the club’s gathering. The book that was decided for the 2nd “…quarter was The Fixer” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes it goes along with a similar theme as the last book that was picked being a thriller and mystery. The choice was perfect for Sebastian because he enjoys “…to read books with horror and mystery.”
As Book Club embarks on its next literary adventure with The Fixer, it is clear that the club’s commitment to promoting a love for reading and creating a space for thoughtful discussions continues to resonate with its members, both new and experienced.
